The W. G. Solheim Mycological Herbarium collection contains 48,000 specimens, principally parasitic fungi; also all of the major groups of fungi. It is based on Dr. Solheim’s own formal collection of approximately 1,800 species as well as exsiccatae from Ohio, California, North Dakota, Utah, Wisconsin, Canada, the Farlow Herbarium at Harvard, and several European herbaria (see below). Many well-known mycologists from around the world collected in Wyoming with Dr. Solheim and later correspondedand exchanged specimens.
Over the past 5 years, ongoing NSF funding has been received through New York Botanical Garden and University of Illinois for databasing the macro fungi and micro fungi, respectively. This is part of an integrated network of significant national collections. Specimen records for~70 percent of RMS will be available online through the Herbarium Mycoportal.
